The content of this page is primarily for the use of members of the Ulster Society of Rugby Football Referees (USRFR: The Society).
This area relates to the administration and support for society members whilst involved in assessing referee performance.
INTRODUCTION
The society has a robust quality assurance element with the mandatory assessment of all active referees.
Competence to officiate is adjudged solely on evidence based assessment.
It is this system which allows the Society to operate a non-discriminatory practice of its membership as mandated by the membership.
This process saw 333 assessments undertaken in season 2016/17, a rise of 4% on last season.
ASSESSING
The purpose of an assessor is threefold:
1) To assist and participate in the education and development of the referee
2) To judge objectively the performance of the referee
3) To facilitate selection procedures at all level.
Throughout Ireland all assessors use the same assessment form to evaluate and support the referee.
The assessment form is subdivided into the key areas and components of the game.
Assessors undergo a mentoring process during their initial training and a subsequent approval assessment to conclude.
Assessors like referees attend workshops to keep up to date with game/referee trends and also receive training to assist in judging objectively and consistently.
