Tommy Bowe had a great run in the 10th minute and looked like a dangerous option for Ulster, unfortunately he passed the ball wide.Minutes later following two lineouts Ulster Captain Justin Harrison fed the ball to Stephen Ferris who attacked the Dragons line with gusto. Ulster's second try soon followed after some great pressure play from Man-of-the-Match Neil Best, robbing opposite blind-side Andrew Hall to release Trimble to score the all important second try in the 19th minute. Trimble's outstanding try showed the wingers pace and ability to sell a great dummy, David Humphreys duly converted the try and Ulster led by 14 points to nil.
Ulster kept the pressure on the Dragons for the next 20 minutes but were lucky not to concede points when the Dragons intercepted a ball from a pass from Humphreys. In the last few minutes of the first half Aled Brew broke through the Ulster defence to touch down which Sweeney converting the try. The half time score stood at 14-7.
There was no score in the second half and Ulster were lucky not to concede points.
Ulster coach Mark McCall " In the second half we didnt take the opportunities that we created"
Neil Best " Our first half performance was good, our second not so. But we held firm at the end and we were very intent on not letting them score"
Dragons coach Paul Turner:
"On 50 minutes we'd silenced the crowd but we just didn't take our chances. Ulster will probably feel themselves fortunate but we've come to the league champions and deserved a draw in the end. It's all part of our development and I'm really proud of the players, although perhaps we had too many unforced errors."
